Frequently Asked Questions
Starting therapy can bring up questions, and it's completely okay to want to know what to expect. Below are answers to some common questions about therapy, my approach, and what working together may look like. If you have a question that isn't answered here, please feel free to reach out.
The first (intake) session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin exploring what brings you to therapy. We may talk about your current concerns, the context that impacts them, your goals, and what you hope to gain from therapy. It is also a chance for you to ask questions and get a sense of whether working together feels like the right fit.
You do not need to have everything figured out before starting therapy. If something in your life feels difficult, overwhelming, or no longer feels manageable, therapy may offer a space to slow down, gain understanding, and explore meaningful change.
The frequency of sessions is discussed collaboratively and may vary depending on your needs, the type of therapy you are seeking, goals, and circumstances. Many clients begin with bi-weekly sessions, although this can be adjusted over time.
Not at all. You do not need to come to therapy with the right words or a clear understanding of what you need. We can begin wherever you are and work together to make sense of what is bringing you in. This needs to work for you.
The length of therapy is different for everyone and depends on your needs, goals, and the concerns you are working through. Some clients benefit from short-term support, while others choose to engage in therapy for a longer period of time. We will regularly check in about your progress and ensure therapy continues to feel purposeful and supportive.
Therapy sessions are scheduled for 60 minutes in length. The final 10 minutes of this time are reserved for completing clinical notes and allowing for a thoughtful transition between sessions making the actual in-session time the standard 50 minutes. Extended 90-minute or 120-minute appointments may also be available upon request and can be discussed directly with me directly.
If your benefits have lapsed or you are unsure about your coverage, please reach out to your insurance provider. We can discuss your options and explore what may work best for your circumstances. Sliding scales may be available upon request depending on circumstance for both parties involved.
I understand that life happens and plans can change. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please provide as much notice as possible. The more notice, the more time allowed for another client who may be wait listed to use that time slot. To cancel or reschedule, please use our online booking system through Jane App to see other available times. Appointments cancelled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours' notice, as well as missed (no show) appointments, are subject to the full fee amount. Please refer to the cancellation policy in the consent form for more information.
My specialty areas are not exhaustive. You are welcome to book in for a 10-minute consultation to discuss your needs and if we are a good fit. Referrals to other providers or resources can be provided if needed.
I may occasionally be away from the office. Planned absences will be communicated in advance whenever possible. If you anticipate needing support during this time, you are welcome to discuss your options with me before my absence. Your continuation of care is of utmost importance to me.
